中国有钱人为何更愿出国扫货? China's Biggest Spenders Spend Big Overseas

国的有钱人在哪儿买古琦(Gucci)和爱马仕(Herm's)的产品?答案是:无处不在。

中国在全球珠宝、高档手包、高级时装和手表中所占据的份额正迅速上升,这已不是什么秘密。但他们消费的地点却表明,中国财富的触角伸得很远。

据咨询公司贝恩(Bain & Co.)本周公布的一份报告,中国消费者去年购买的所有奢侈品中有超过一半──56%,数额达130亿美元──是购自中国大陆之外。其中,65亿美元购自中国的两个特别行政区香港和澳门,另外65亿美元则是在全球时尚之都如纽约、巴黎、东京和罗马消费的。

有充足的证据支持贝恩的这一发现:英国时尚巨头巴宝莉集团(Burberry Group PLC)上个月认为中国游客的购物习惯是推动其世界各地多数店铺销量实现增长的最重要因素。该公司说,以巴宝莉在伦敦的商店为例,中国消费者占据了其销售额的30%。拥有古琦品牌的法国零售巨擎PPR SA在最近的季报中也提到了中国游客,说它的欧洲销量之所以迅速增长得益于中国大陆游客数量的增加。该公司还说,中国游客的平均支出也在增长。

在伦敦,新西区公司(New West End Company)──代表富人聚居区伦敦西区高端零售商的行业组织──面向中国推出了一个名为"奢华伦敦"的项目,旨在吸引更多中国消费者来到伦敦。该公司说,它将与旅行社合作,推出购物之旅和以商业区为中心的跟团旅游等特色项目。

法国政府最近公布,今年迄今中国游客增加了近50%,中国游客目前是最大的奢侈品海外消费群,超过了以往分别位居第一和第二的俄罗斯与日本。

随着更多的奢侈品牌在中国开店──Coach计划在当前财年内开设三十家新店,蒂芙尼(Tiffany)宣布四家店铺将很快开张,贝恩估计今年前八个月新开了八十家奢侈品店──中国消费者在国内买到必备手包变得越来越容易了。不过根据贝恩,出国购买的首要原因依然是价格问题:中国对奢侈品征收高额的进口关税。法国奢侈品巨鳄LVMH说,其产品在中国的售价要比在法国平均高出35%。

有了如此巨大的价差,为一个手包花上一千欧元也就算得上是划算了,不是吗?

Where are rich Chinese buying Gucci and Hermès products? Answer: Everywhere.

It's no secret that China has been gobbling up a bigger share of the world's jewelry, luxury handbags, high fashion and watches. But where they're doing their shopping shows that Chinese money has a far reach.

More than half of all luxury-goods purchases by Chinese consumers last year ─ 56%, or $13 billion ─ were made outside of China, according to a report released this week by consultants Bain & Co. Of that, $6.5 billion was spent in Hong Kong and Macau─both special administrative regions of China─and $6.5 billion in global fashion capitals such as New York, Paris, Tokyo and Rome.

There's plenty of evidence to support Bain's findings: Last month, British fashion giant Burberry Group PLC cited the shopping habits of Chinese tourists as the most important factor driving sales in many of its stores around the world. In Burberry's London stores, for instance, Chinese shoppers accounted for 30% of sales, the company said. French retail conglomerate PPR SA, which owns the Gucci brand, also cited Chinese visitors in its recent quarterly results, saying its European sales were growing quickly thanks to an increase in the number of tourists from the mainland. The company also said the average amount spent by Chinese tourists was increasing.

Western tourists for years have headed east to China for bargain clothing, including knock-off versions of major brands; now Chinese tourists are heading for big European cities for exactly the opposite reason─to buy the real thing.

In London, the New West End Company─a business association that represents the high-end retailers in London's posh West End─launched a program called 'London Luxury' in China to entice more Chinese buyers to the English capital. The company said it would co-operate with tour operators to feature shopping trips and package tours centered around the stores.

The French government recently reported that visits from China were up almost 50% so far this year, and that Chinese tourists are now the No. 1 foreign spenders on luxury goods, surpassing the Russians and Japanese who used to rank first and second.

As more luxury brands open up stores in China─Coach is on track to open up 30 new stores in its current fiscal year, Tiffany's announced plans to open four stores soon and Bain estimates that 80 new luxury stores opened in the first eight months of the year─it is becoming ever easier for Chinese shoppers to find must-have handbags closer to home. But, according to Bain, the top reason for shopping abroad remains cost: China slaps high import levies on luxury goods. French luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton says that its products cost an average 35% more in China than in France.

With such a big price difference, it almost makes financial sense to drop a thousand euros on a handbag, doesn't it?
