中国重汽要开进全球三甲 Sinotruck has top three in its sights

 

中国重汽(Sinotruk)的目标是在5-10年内跻身全球前三大卡车制造商(按产量计算),这突显出中国工业企业日益膨胀的雄心:成为全球领军者。

中国重汽执行董事潘庆向英国《金融时报》表示,中国重汽今年已超过印度塔塔汽车(Tata),成为全球第四大汽车制造商,目前正寻求缩小与德国戴姆勒(Daimler)和两家本国竞争对手东风和一汽(FAW)之间的差距。戴姆勒是全球最大的卡车制造商。

潘庆在汉诺威卡车博览会上表示:“中国重汽希望在10年之内成为全球三大卡车制造商之一——我认为需要5到10年时间。”

根据市场研究机构环球透视(Global Insight)的数据,中国重汽去年的卡车销量问12.5万辆,名列全球第五大重卡制造商,排在塔塔之后。

然而,潘庆表示,总部位于山东省的中国重汽今年在收购数家本土竞争对手之后,排名已超过了塔塔。预计这些交易,加之国内需求上升,将使公司今年的销量达到19万辆。

潘庆表示,中国重汽目前主要生产中型和重型卡车,但计划将产品线扩大至全系列商用车,包括轻型卡车和巴士。

中国重汽的雄心,突显出更多中国工业企业非常渴望成为全球领军者。例如,电信集团华为(Huawei)在2008年的专利申请数量位居全球首位,这通常是飞利浦(Philips)和西门子(Siemens)等老牌企业所占据的位置。

业内专家表示,中国卡车在质量和价格方面无法与发达国家的商用车相提并论。通常情况下,中国重卡的售价大约是西欧卡车(标价8万欧元)的四分之一。

伦斯勒表示:“他们目前在中国卖的卡车,是欧洲40年前卖的。”

监管标准将让欧洲卡车制造商避免在本土市场与中国对手竞争。

咨询公司AlixPartners总经理文森兹•施韦格曼(Vinzenz Schwegmann)表示:“中国还不能达到严格的欧洲排放标准,这将会暂时保护本土卡车制造商。”

然而,施韦格曼表示,西方卡车制造商不应低估它们在新兴市场面临的激烈竞争。

施韦格曼表示:“中国卡车制造商已经在中东、北非和东南亚大举扩张。这些地区在全球市场的份额,将在今后几年重新洗牌。”

Sinotruk is aiming to become one of the world’s top three truckmakers by volume within five to 10 years, underlining Chinese industrial companies’ growing ambition for global leadership.

Qing Pan, executive board member of Sinotruk, told the Financial Times that the Chinese truck group was looking to close the gap on Germany’s Daimler, the world’s largest truckmaker, and its two bigger Chinese rivals – Dongfeng and FAW after claiming it had overtaken India’s Tata as global number four this year.

“Sinotruk would like to become one of the top three players in the world in less than a decade – I would say within five to 10 years,” he said at the Hanover truck fair.

Sinotruk sold 125,000 units last year, ranking it as the world’s fifth-largest heavy truck producer behind Tata, according to data by Global Insight, the market research firm.

However, Mr Pan said the group, based in China’s Shandong province, had surpassed Tata this year after several acquisitions of local rivals. Those deals plus higher domestic demand are expected to boost Sinotruck’s sales to 190,000 this year.

The Chinese producer currently focuses on medium- and heavy-duty trucks, but aims to expand its portfolio to provide a full range of commercial vehicles, including light trucks and buses, Mr Pan said.

Sinotruk’s ambition underscores the extent to which more Chinese industrial companies are vying for global market leadership. Huawei, the telecoms group, for example, had the most patent applications of any company in the world in 2008, claiming a position normally held by established groups such as Philips and Siemens.

China already dominates the global truck market, accounting for three of the top five truckmakers. Dongfeng is the world’s second largest, producing 193,000 vehicles last year, behind Daimler which made 229,000. FAW, the other big Chinese producer, is number three, producing 182,000.

The country will account for more than one in two of every trucks sold worldwide this year.

Andreas Renschler, head of Daimler trucks, was dismissive of the threat to his company’s pre-eminent position in the medium to heavy segments.

“If someone else says he wants to become number one in the truck market above 14 tons, then I don’t take that seriously because he will not be able to succeed,” Mr Renschler said.

Industry experts said Chinese trucks are not comparable with commercial vehicles in the developed world in terms of quality and price. Chinese heavy trucks are typically sold for about a quarter of the €80,000 pricetag of a rival western European-built model.

“They are selling trucks in China that would have been sold here in Europe 40 years ago,” Mr Renschler said.

Regulatory standards will shield Europe’s truckmakers against Chinese competition in their home market.

“The Chinese are not yet in a position to fulfil the strict European emission standards, which will protect the indigenous truckmakers for the time being,” said Vinzenz Schwegmann, managing director with AlixPartners, the consultancy.

However, he said that western truckmakers should not underestimate the fierce competition they face in emerging markets.

“Chinese truckmakers are already expanding aggressively in the Middle East, Northern Africa and south-east Asia“, he said. “These are the regions where global market share will be reshuffled in the years to come,” Mr Schwegmann said.
