In a letter and news release, Buffett said that Sokol had purchased shares of specialty chemicals company Lubrizol, before Sokol convinced Buffett on the merits of an acquisition. Berkshire Hathaway earlier this month announced it is buying Lubrizol for $9 billion.
The resignation doesn't have anything to do with Sokol's stock purchases, Buffett said, but the bombshell threatens to cast a pall over Berkshire and Buffett, perhaps the world's most famous investor.
