中新社纽约4月17日电(记者李洋)有“股神”之称的美国著名投资家沃伦・巴菲特17日宣布，他被确诊患有早期前列腺癌，未来将接受放射性治疗。
81岁的巴菲特当天在写给伯克希尔・哈撒韦公司(Berkshire Hathaway)股东的一封信中说，自己是在11日体检时发现患癌症的，他同时宣称自己无意退下来，将继续执掌公司。
巴菲特说，他将从今年7月开始接受为期两个月的放射性治疗。在此期间，他的外出旅行可能会受到一定影响，但并不会影响他的日常工作。
他还补充说，医生认为他现在的病情“没有任何生命危险”，甚至不会让他感到身体虚弱。他形容自己目前“精力旺盛”，但表示如有任何健康异常情况，会及时向股东报告。
有癌症专家指出，由于发现及时，巴菲特的病情应该能够在短期内控制住。美国癌症协会称，2012年将有约24.2万前列腺癌新增病例，预计将有约2.8万人死于前列腺癌。

Warren Buffett Discloses Prostate Cancer Diagnosis
In a letter to shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway Tuesday, billionaire Warren Buffett announced that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The 81-year-old Buffett stresses in the letter that his doctors have assured him that his condition, which he learned of last Wednesday, is “not life-threatening or even debilitating in any meaningful way.”
The world’s third-richest person said the cancer, which is at an early stage, was discovered because his PSA levels jumped in a recent checkup, leading his doctors to conduct a biopsy. Buffett said he will begin a two-month radiation program in mid-July, and that though his travel schedule may be restricted his usual routine should be otherwise unaffected. There is plenty of reason to hope for the best, as the five-year survival rate for Buffett’s diagnosis is nearly 100% according to the American Cancer Society.
The legendary investor, known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” said in his most recent annual shareholder letter that the Berkshire board has already decided on a leading candidate to be his eventual successor as Berkshire CEO, though he did not identify the individual. (CNBC”s Becky Quick reported Tuesday that Buffett’s diagnosis did not lead him to notify the potential successor of his candidacy.)
Buffett has already added hedge fund manager’s Todd Combs and Ted Weschler to Berkshire’s talent ranks to help and eventually succeed him in managing the firm’s investment portfolio — which counts Coca-Cola, IBM and Wells Fargo as its largest equity holdings — and made clear that he intends for his son Howard to take on the role of non-executive chairman.
The succession at Berkshire Hathaway has often been compared to that of Apple, another company with an iconic founder, in Steve Jobs, that many viewed as inextricable from the company’s value. Jobs had a more dire diagnosis and took multiple leaves before his passing in 2011, but it will be years before Apple runs out of products to sell that he had a hand in developing. When Buffett leaves Berkshire, whenever that may be, his investing acumen — and the seal of approval he grants the companies he invests in — leaves with him.
Shares of Berkshire A shares fell 1.2% after-hours Tuesday. B shares were off 1.7%.

This is to let you know that I have been diagnosed with stage I prostate cancer. The good news is that I’ve been told by my doctors that my condition is not remotely life-threatening or even debilitating in any meaningful way. I received my diagnosis last Wednesday. I then had a CAT scan and a bone scan on Thursday, followed by an MRI today. These tests showed no incidence of cancer elsewhere in my body.
My doctors and I have decided on a two-month treatment of daily radiation to begin in mid-July. This regimen will restrict my travel during that period, but will not otherwise change my daily routine. I feel great – as if I were in my normal excellent health – and my energy level is 100 percent. I discovered the cancer because my PSA level (an indicator my doctors had regularly checked for many years) recently jumped beyond its normal elevation and a biopsy seemed warranted.
I will let shareholders know immediately should my health situation change. Eventually, of course, it will; but I believe that day is a long way off.Warren E. Buffett
