Feb. 6, 2012: Chongqing's former police chief, Wang Lijun, flees to U.S. consulate in Chengdu.
March 26: The Wall Street Journal reports that Mr. Wang alleged Mr. Heywood was murdered after a business dispute with Gu Kailai.
April 10: China says that Gu Kailai is a murder suspect and that Bo Xilai is under investigation for unspecified offenses.
Aug. 20: Ms. Gu is convicted of murder and given a suspended death sentence.
Sept. 24: Mr. Wang is convicted on charges including defection and abuse of power and is given a 15-year jail term.
July 25, 2013: China says it will soon try Bo Xilai on charges of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power.
